Patron and Joe Boxer at the AWCC

These grizzly bears were orphaned in 2002 as young cubs when their mother was killed. Their unusual names are the result of a naming fund raiser that was won by executives from clothing brand Joe Boxer and Patron Spirits.

    Grizzly Bear Paw

This is Hugo, sleeping after a big meal at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. Her paw has recovered from an encounter with a porcupine. She had hundreds of quills imbedded in her paws when she was found in November of 2000 by two guys riding snowmobiles near Hugo Mountain. She was severely dehydrated, malnourished, and unable to walk or eat when she was brought to the AWCC. As you can see, she made a full recovery but will not be released into the wild because she doesn't have the skills to survive on her own.
